The United States’ Men’s soccer team also nicknamed The Yanks is the first Soccer team in the US that was born in 1885. It played its first international game (unofficial) against Canada and was defeated 1-0 in Newark, New Jersey.

This FIFA member team controlled by United States Soccer Federation has participated in ten FIFA World cups having played its first world cup game in 1930 and got to the semifinals. It won the 1950 World cup when it played England and won 1- 0 and has had seven straight appearances to the World cup which is no mean feat.

Sean Johnson

Sean Everest Johnson is the current goalkeeper of the New York City team. Born in Georgia 31 years ago, he started his soccer career in 2007 playing for UCF Knights while in college. After college, he played for other teams like Atlanta Blackhawks, Chicago Fire, and presently the New York City team. He plays for the United States National team.

He was part of the team that won the Runner-up CONCACAF under 20 Championship in 2009, the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2013, and Runner-up CONCACAF Gold cup 2019. He was drafted in the 2010 MLS (Major League Soccer) Super Draft’s fourth season by Chicago Fire.

In this draft, Sean Johnson was the last Generation Adidas player to be selected. Also, Johnson was named Chicago Fire’s Defender of the year in 2013 where he made an 11-9-7 record with the Fire.

He went to Atlanta United in 2016, then later to New York City in exchange for target allocation and general allocation money. He joined the United States national under-20 team in 2009. He was one of the three goalkeepers for the United States’ CONCACAF Gold Cup of 2013 and earned his senior national team start on July 17, 2013.

Bill Hamid

Bill also plays for the United States as the goalkeeper for D.C. United in the Major League Soccer (MLS). Born in Virginia in 1990, Bill plays number 24 and made his professional debut with the team in May 2010.

Hamid made a record as the youngest goalkeeper to win a Major League Soccer game in history. He has played a total of 200 games for D.C including 184 in the MLS league and helped his team to victory.

He made his senior debut for the US national team in 2012 and was part of the team that won the CONCACAF Gold cup in 2013 and 2017. In 2014, Bill was awarded the MLS goalkeeper of the year award.

2012 was probably Hamid’s best MLS season because he earned a record 88 saves. Though he was sent off with a red card in the 2012 playoffs against New York Red Bulls, his team still won.

Reggie Cannon

Reginald Jacob Cannon is an American professional soccer player born in 1998 and plays number 2 as a defender in the Boavista team. This Chicago, Illinois born plays Right-back position.

He started his career in high school playing for Grapevine Faith Christian School and won the TAPPS Division 2 Texas Championship in boys’ soccer. In High school, he joined the FC Dallas Academy team where he garnered back-to-back national championships for Dallas FC before he joined university.

In university, he played college soccer for one year at the University of California where he was the only freshman to appear and start the Bruins match. He left college and signed a homegrown contract with FC Dallas in 2016.

Cannon made his professional debut when we made a 2-1 win against Tulsa Roughnecks during the Lamar Hunt Open Cup. He also made his MLS Debut in September 2017 for the club after drawing 2-2 against New York Red Bulls.

Aaron Long

Aaron plays as a defender (Number 33) for New York Bulls. Born in 1992, Aaron has played for a number of teams including UC Riverside Highlanders, FC Tucson, Portland Timbers, Seattle Sounders FC, and New York Red Bulls, among others. He is in the United States National team and was among the team that came Runner-up CONCACAF Gold cup 2019.

Other honors he won with his team include USL Cup in 2016 for New York Red Bulls II, MLS Supporter’s Shield for New York Red Bulls. As an individual, he won the USL Defender of the year (2016), MSL Defender of the Year (2018), MLS Best XI (2018).

Last Remarks

The United States Men’s Soccer team is one of the few to have participated in ten world cup competitions. It has got a great team of players that have won a number of awards and have great soccer careers. They include Sean Johnson, Bill Hamid, Reggie Cannon, and Aaron Long, among others.
